In 2015 I had a life changing Spinal Cord Injury, resulting in emergency surgery and rehab at the National Spinal Injuries Centre at Stoke Mandeville Hospital. Following that I spent a couple of years in a ‘morphine fog’ taking endless prescription drugs even though they didn’t stop my constant pain. I had Kinesiology treatment and it blew my mind as to how it worked, I thought that it must be some kind of magic.
After a few years of having treatments, I signed up to the Foundation Course. I knew nothing about being a therapist and I wasn’t interested in being one as I was doing it purely for my own benefit. On completion I had the bug for learning more. Soon I had qualifications in Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology, First Aid, Nutrition and signed up for the Practitioner Diploma. The practical exam was the most terrifying thing that I’d done for years.
I still have the bug for learning different modalities and I have gone from being totally devastated by my Spinal Cord Injury to being able to accept it, mostly. I remain in constant pain; my walking and balance aren’t great and I get incredibly tired but I have regular Kinesiology treatments and I haven’t taken prescription painkillers for many years 😊
